I’m Turning My Daughter into a Whovian! What Have I Done?!

I’ve totally gotten my 7 year old addicted to Doctor Who!

We’re half way through season 2 and by episode 3 of season 1 she had already made up her own lyrics to the theme song! One day I will get video of her singing this, but so far, I haven’t been stealthy enough.

Of course, before getting her to watch it with me, I checked out CommonSenseMedia.org to make sure she’s not too young.  Well, they say age 10, but the average age of the parent reviews is 8.  You can read my opinion on that website here. So based on the fact that I watched the original series when I was little plus the info from CSM, I decided to take the leap and watch with my little bee.

I’ve had people say “but isn’t it too scary for her?” and I must admit, it can get scary or intense sometimes, but because I don’t mind talking to her about the situations and/or explaining why things are happening or reminding her that it’s all fake, she hasn’t had any nightmares and begs me every day for another episode.

So, I think it was a great decision!  It has provoked some very awesome conversations with my daughter about all kinds of things real and fictional, and it really gets her imagination going.

What more could a mama ask for?

    Use Common Sense Media, Parents!

When I’m unable to review a book or watch a movie/tv show for myself, I tend to consult commonsensemedia.org to make sure that they are age appropriate for my little bee and highly recommend other parents check the site out as well (p.s. DirecTv has it built-in and apparently other providers too)!

Common Sense Media gives you “common sense” ratings for movies, tv shows, books, websites, games, apps and music versus their advertised ratings.  The best part…

When being better doesn’t equal victory: Samsung’s curious overshadowing of HTC

THIS!!  But it’s not just marketing @Engadget, it really comes down to basic consumer needs which @HTC isn’t meeting…

I swore by Samsung back before droid phones came along and when the droids came to Verizon I was sure I would stick with Samsung, but I just couldn’t. I thought their phone designs were all just hideous, while HTC was simply more pleasing to the eye, oh and smaller (which is was a desired).

But, no more HTC.  You’ve swindled me into the Eris and Incredible 2, but swindle me no more.  As this article and a lot of the commenters point out, HTC may have superior and sleeker devices, but they fail majorly in upkeep.  As soon as you buy the damn phones they become obsolete because hardly any updates are released, they just release a new phone.  With both phones, I bought with a promise of an upgrade to the new OS which NEVER CAME!

Well, it’s time for me to go back to Samsung. Not only do they release updates, they have a longer battery life, and both of these are VERY important to me.

I don’t know about you, but I can’t afford to buy a new smart phone every 6 months to a year. And, HTC just forces consumers to root and mod their phones within months of purchase and I’d like a product that lasts a little bit longer in an “out of the box” experience, before I have to go voiding my warranty because of a lack of critical updates.

Cya more superior HTC phones, and HELLO to my future Samsung Galaxy S4!

Get it together HTC! I want you back!
